Brow/Eyelids (Browlift/Foreheadplasty/Blepharoplasty)
There are many techniques to improve the aging brow and eyelids. Because each patient is unique, no single procedure is for everyone. Common complaints are “crow’s feet” wrinkles, bulges or a dark hollow of the lower eyelids, excess drooping skin of the brow or eyelids, or a “tired” appearance. Your skin type, the location of your hairline, the depth and location of developing creases or shadows are all important considerations. Fine wrinkles that develop in your thirties and forties can be improved with a good home skin care program, BOTOX® Cosmetic, and/or laser treatment. If browlift or blepharoplasty is indicated, the procedure is safe and return to work is within days to weeks. You can expect to look more radiant and lively. Blepharoplasty and browlift are part of most facelift operations to achieve natural, more complete restoration of all parts of the aging face.

Blepharoplasty Questions
Regarding Blepharoplasty, what methods are used? What about “laser blepharoplasty”? What’s the difference?
The conventional upper blepharoplasty utilizes a crescent shaped incision located along the upper eyelid fold. Excessive skin and fat may be removed. Eyelids can also be lifted to open the eyes more if necessary, helping improve a “tired” appearance and improving fiels of vision. For asian patients, the type and location of the upper eyelid crease can be adjusted. Fat can be used to lighten shadows if the upper eyelid appears hollow. Other techniques can be applied as indicated, then the incision is closed.
There are multiple options for the lower eyelid. If you have mild skin excess or wrinkles, the laser can be used to tighten the skin or improve/remove wrinkles. Patients with more significant skin excess will need an open surgical procedure, but DON’T BE SCARED, this is a common procedure, and the results can be a dramatic improvement! An incision is made just below the eyelashes. Fat can be removed or rearranged to sculpt the desired result so your lower eyelids reflect light youthfully rather than absorbing it into a crease or hollow. Quite often a slightly aging, sagging cheek is lifted through the opening in the lower eyelid, and secured in this more elevated attractive position. Skin excess is trimmed and the incision closed.
Will having blepharoplasty affect how my contact lenses fit?
No. Blepharoplasty surgery only works on the skin and muscle of the eyelids area — how your contact lenses fit is based on the shape of your eye itself. Although you won’t be able to wear contacts for two weeks or so after surgery (to allow time for the healing process to begin without disturbance) blepharoplasty surgery will not change how your contact lenses fit or function.
Why must brows be evaluated when considering upper blepharoplasty?
The upper eyelid and the brow must always be evaluated together. This is very important.
For example, consider someone with a low brow. The low brow causes skin to pile up on the upper lid. This weight causes the person to unconsciously lift the brow until this weight is removed. If skin is removed during an upper blepharoplasty, this weight is reduced. This allows the brow elevators to relax and lower the brow until the skin piles up on the lid again and obscures the result of the upper blepharoplasty. This situation can be avoided by recognition of brow sagging and treatment through a brow lift or forehead lift. When someone doesn’t have brow drooping, this situation does not occur.
