In many situations, your own tissue may be preferable to commercially available fillers. Fat, connective tissue, and cartilage from another location on your body can be transferred as a graft or flap to augment a deficiency or fill a hollow or defect. This is plastic surgery, and the most classic technique for contour restoration.

Restylane Lyft® and Juvederm Voluma XC® are the most structural Hyaluronan Gels available for facial restoration in the United States. They are formulated and FDA-approved for enhancing aging cheeks by filling and lifting hollow and/or sagging soft tissue. They complement rather than replace surgical approaches. Patients treated with RESTYLANE LYFT® or with JUVÉDERM VOLUMA™XC noticed immediately visible correction of age-related volume loss in the lower eyelid and cheek area (before and after dermal fillers treatment) and a younger less fatigued appearance.
Voluma™XC is a Juvederm formulation that incorporates the Allergan proprietary VYCROSS™ molecular cross-linking technology. By increasing density and resistance to resorption of Voluma™ while still preserving flow characteristics, VYCROSS™ helps the product lift loose soft tissue and prolongs the duration of effect of JUVÉDERM VOLUMA™ XC. The XC designation indicates that a low dose of lidocaine is in the gel, which helps control pain at the site of injection. Still, Dr. Laverson offers pre-treatment anesthetic for injections in most facial areas.
An advantage of Restylane Lyft® and Voluma™ XC over alternative long lasting fillers is reversibility with hyaluronidase enzyme. Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring, hydrating and volumizing carbohydrate found beneath your skin surface. Depending on the amount of product Dr. Laverson places beneath your cheeks, Voluma™ provides a subtle or more dramatic non-surgical lifting effect with restoration of youthful contours and profile. Surface skin creases and lines may be less visible because after cheek augmentation with Voluma™, they are more superficial and cast less shadow. A disadvantage of injectable fillers such as Restylane Lyft® and Voluma™XC is that they are temporary solutions.
BOTOX Cosmetic® is a household name for a reason. The highly effective anti-aging formula temporarily eliminates dynamic facial wrinkles by relaxing the muscles that cause them. BOTOX Cosmetic® treatments prevent the muscle contractions, resulting in a more relaxed, youthful appearance that lasts for up to 4 months. The injection process takes 10 to 20 minutes, and you’ll see full results within 3 to 5 days.
Similar to BOTOX, Dysport® also temporarily improves the look of dynamic facial wrinkles. The molecule size is slightly different, making Dysport® a bit more diffuse, which is a plus when treating a larger area such as the forehead. Treatments take 10 to 20 minutes as well. The onset time for Dysport® is typically 2 to 3 days, with results lasting up to 5 months.
The Restylane® family of products includes a range of anti-aging products, all containing hyaluronic acid, a naturally occuring substance produced by the body that helps keep tissues lubricated and moist. The various Restylane® products contain different particle sizes of hyaluronic acid, each formulated to address a different concern or treatment area, from fine wrinkles to more severe facial folds. Depending on the formula, results last 6 to 9 months.
Many cosmetic injectables are created to keep the face looking youthful and radiant. But the hands can age prematurely, too. Restylane® Lyft is the first and only hyaluronic acid filler that’s FDA-approved for both the face and the hands. One of the most structured hyaluronic gel on the market, it restores lost volume to cheeks, the midface area, and the backs of the hands. Restylane® Lyft provides results for up to 6 months to a year.
The JUVÉDERM® line of injectable gel fillers also contains a variety of formulas created to lift and contour cheeks, smooth fine lines and wrinkles, and plump lips. As with the Restylane line, each JUVÉDERM formula is made from a modified form of hyaluronic acid that temporarily adds volume to the skin, correcting wrinkles and restoring youthful contours. Treatment sessions take 15 to 60 minutes, depending on the size and number of areas being treated. Results can last between 1 and 2 years.
Similar to Restylane Lyft, JUVÉDERM VOLUMA® XC is the most structural gel in the product line, making it highly effective for treating midface volume loss and restoring volume to sunken cheeks or sagging soft tissue. Using VYCROSS™ technology, which uses a mix of high and low molecular weight hyaluronic acid, the JUVÉDERM VOLUMA® XC formula provides extra lift capacity and longer-lasting results. The gel formula contains lidocaine to minimize discomfort, and results last up to 2 years.
BELOTERO BALANCE® is a hyaluronic acid filler that’s FDA-approved to temporarily fill in moderate to severe nasolabial folds (the wrinkles that go from the nose to the corners of the mouth) and treat the more delicate smile lines and vertical lip lines. Results are immediate and can last up to 6 months. BELOTERO BALANCE® can also be used for lip augmentation, restoring volume and adding definition for a more perfect pout.
RADIESSE® is also an injectable gel that’s used to fill in fine lines and wrinkles, but it works a little bit differently than the formulas containing hyaluronic acid. Like other fillers, the RADIESSE® formula provides immediate volume, correcting wrinkles for a smoother more youthful appearance, but what sets it apart is that it also contains calcium hydroxylapatite (CaHA) microspheres, which stimulate the production of collagen. So, even after the gel has been absorbed by your body, the results continue to improve. RADIESSE® results last up to 12 months.
